Tchaikovsky's Romeo And Juliet
We are pleased to be able to present you with a piece of music: Tchaikovsky's Fantasy Overture «Romeo and Juliet» was recorded for you as part of our January CD recordings.
They form one of the most famous love couples in world literature, but Tchaikovsky's relationship to Romeo and Juliet was as little romantic as it was freely chosen. It took the young composer several attempts to find his way out of the corset of his mentor Balakirev and into his own musical language. In the «Fantasy Overture», Tchaikovsky breathtakingly disentangled and united Shakespearean figures - and ultimately created his first great masterpiece with a love theme that is now part of pop culture.
