New recording

Nosferatu for the 21st century

The Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich has recorded a new symphony of horror for the silent film "Nosferatu". This is thanks to two specialists: film music composer Christopher Young and conductor Frank Strobel.

The American Christopher Young has been active in Hollywood for 40 years, has scored over 110 films and has had a strong musical influence on the horror film genre. For example, he wrote the music for series such as "Nightmare on Elmstreet", "Hellraiser" and the feature films "Spider-Man 3", "Pet Sematary" and "Swordfish".

Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's "Nosferatu" from 1922 is the first horror film and is still a cult film, and not just among connoisseurs. As Christopher Young specialises in the sound of horror, he was tempted to write a new composition for it. And he chose conductor Frank Strobel, who regularly presents film symphonies with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, for the premiere. A recording was produced for the premiere in February 2023, which is now available. The horror continues.
