My Take: Matthias Rácz
Our solo bassoonist Matthias Rácz on his part in the Conductors' Academy.
"When Paavo Järvi's Conductors' Academy continues in November, it will not only be very motivating days for Paavo's students, but also for me. Namely, I will be playing Carl Maria von Weber's Bassoon Concerto in F major op. 75. Not that this is the first time, I have interpreted it countless times and recorded it on CD with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie. But to play it as a soloist with your own orchestra is something very special. Even though I don't tend to be that nervous, there is naturally a bit more excitement. You know each other, it's a wonderful chance to create a special concert experience together. And the work is also close to me personally. My mother is Hungarian, so 50 percent Hungarian blood flows in me. Since my youth, I have admired the compatriot and bassoonist László Hara; unfortunately, I was never able to meet him in person before he tragically ended his life. His interpretation of the third movement, which also contains elements of Hungarian folk music - those folk-dancing passages, they have left a deep impression on me. I want to give everything for a great, shared concert moment with my orchestra and I'm really looking forward to it."
