Dress rehearsals
Can you hear the difference? Experience at first hand how the conductor and the musicians put the finishing touches to the works in rehearsal.
It is fascinating how naturally we as concertgoers sit in a concert hall and enjoy a perfect sound experience. But how is it that every musician knows exactly when to play and when to pause? It is precisely this fine-tuning that is experienced in the dress rehearsal and offers a unique insight into the world of the orchestra.
The composer and conductor Petr Popelka describes this process as a game of table tennis between conductor and orchestra: "The conductor sets the direction with a gesture or a thought-provoking impulse, and the orchestra responds with its playing, which reflects back the framework of its abilities."
As a member of the Freundeskreis Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, you have access to at least one dress rehearsal per season from the first "Handel" category upwards. The format takes place a total of six times, each time with different works and artists.
The picture gallery will give you a first impression of the dress rehearsals.
