Born in 2002, Spanish violinist Maria Dueñas is the youngest soloist this season. She is a musician "who has something to say and the ability to express it brilliantly", praised the New York Times. What is certain is that she has far more to offer than fast fingers: she also composes her own works and cadenzas and is consistently committed to contemporary and rare repertoire. Now she is playing the violin concerto by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. It is "more Caruso than Paganini", said the composer about this work, in which he used various melodies from his film scores. Incidentally, Bruckner also used an explicit quote in his 4th Symphony, which Paavo Järvi will conduct afterwards, in addition to all kinds of stylistic echoes: namely the song of a great tit.
