Born in 2002, Spanish violinist Maria Dueñas is the youngest soloist this season. She is a musician "who has something to say and the ability to express it brilliantly", praised the New York Times. What is certain is that she has far more to offer than fast fingers: she also composes her own works and cadenzas and is consistently committed to contemporary and rare repertoire. Now she is playing the violin concerto by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. It is "more Caruso than Paganini", said the composer about this work, in which he used various melodies from his film scores. Paavo Järvi also conducts the overture to Schumann's only opera "Genoveva" and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, which leads in an almost pictorial manner from "complete surrender to fate" through "murmuring, doubts, complaints, reproaches" to the radiant finale.
