Brahms' music has "a strong element of consolation", the pianist Igor Levit once said, "it has something so holding and embracing!" This has to do with the fact that this composer gives "all emotions plenty of time and space", his music "allows you to breathe in and out even in the most virtuosic things". What he means by this can be heard in his interpretation of the 2nd Piano Concerto. Paavo Järvi will then conduct Symphony No. 1 by Brahms' mentor Robert Schumann, a work that also conveys intense emotions: Schumann, who was also extremely expressive linguistically, wrote his first major orchestral work "in that springtime urge that carries people away into old age and overtakes them anew every year".
