"We are three Danes and a Norwegian cellist. As we're quite bearded, we're often compared to Vikings. But we only occasionally plunder the English coast." So says the biography of the Danish String Quartet, which not only likes to go its own way in terms of humour, but also musically. In this concert, the four musicians combine Schnittke's 2nd String Quartet, which he wrote after the accidental death of filmmaker Larissa Schapitko, with film music. Radiohead man Jonny Greenwood's soundtrack for "There Will Be Blood" has caused at least as much of a furore as the film itself. And yes, it is also suitable for an arrangement for string quartet - if the arrangers are as unconventional as the Danish String Quartet.
