Facts and figures about our cultural institution
Concerts and events are our passion. However, facts and figures are also key to our success. Here are some from these three seasons: 2024/25, 2025/26 and 2026/27.
Our responsibilities
We, Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich AG, are the governing body of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and also carry out a number of other tasks:
1. Concerts with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich in the Grosse and Kleine Tonhalle:
The orchestra performs around 94 concerts in the Grosse Tonhalle across 43 different programmes each season. Musicians from the orchestra also perform regularly in chamber music ensembles at the Kleine Tonhalle.
2. Concerts by the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich in Zurich:
We also perform at various venues across the city. Under the title ‘classic meets art’, concerts take place at Hauser & Wirth Zurich and in museums. In June 2027, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich will perform for two days at Zurich’s Münsterhof for the second time as part of the open-air series tonhalleAIR. Our chamber music series for children is called ‘Kunterwunderbunt’ and is held at various community centres across the city of Zurich.
3. Concerts by the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich on guest appearances and tours:
We have been touring Europe and the world for decades. We have performed in over 100 cities across more than 30 countries, carrying the name of our home – the Tonhalle Zurich – out into the world. Our Music Director, Paavo Järvi, conducts these concerts.
4. The Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich as the organiser of its own concert series:
In addition to subscription and special concerts by the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich is also responsible for special programmes such as Kosmos Chamber Music, Série jeunes, piano recitals, Creative Chair and events featuring spotlight artists. The 2026/27 season will see the addition of the Prokofiev cycle, and a major anniversary year lies ahead: in 2027, the music world will mark the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death. Our programme for this is called BTHVN27.
5. Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich as operator of the Tonhalle Zürich:
We have been the operator of the Tonhalle Zürich since 1 August 2022; this means that, in addition to our own events, we are also responsible for the entire venue hire business for the Tonhalle halls and the running of the building. In the 2024/25 season, approximately 100,000 visitors attended 154 events for which organisers had hired the Kleine or Grosse Tonhalle.
6. Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich as a cooperation partner:
Through collaboration, we have launched initiatives such as tonhalleAIR and Connect. We are a partner to over 27 institutions, cultural organisers and festivals.
