Jonathan Nott takes over for Franz Welser-Möst

Franz Welser-Möst has unfortunately had to cancel this concert for health reasons. Jonathan Nott will conduct the unchanged programme in his place. Tickets remain valid.

The composers Olivier Messiaen and Gustav Mahler have a lot in common: A fascination for the sounds of nature, for example. Or a flair for unusual orchestral colours. And - as Jonathan Nott shows in this programme - also an interest in Asian literature: Gustav Mahler used German adaptations of Chinese poems for his "Song of the Earth". And Olivier Messiaen wrote his "Sept haïkaï" after his honeymoon with Yvonne Loriod in Japan: an enchanting work for orchestra and piano that was inspired by the music of Japanese Nō theatre and the chirping of Japanese birds, among other things.
